Why I Started Writing:
My interest in writing actually came as a surprise to me. In 2007, I went on a mission trip to the Czech Republic where our daughter, son-in-law, and two-year-old granddaughter were serving as missionaries. I was there to help with English Camp/VBS. I was assigned the role of storyteller, which was not my usual instructional area of music or drama. I had an interpreter, five scriptures, a jungle theme, certain English vocabulary, and five days to complete my story with the Czech children. On the closing day of the camp, a Czech elementary teacher asked where I found such an exciting story to fit the English Camp theme and Bible verses. To my surprise, she asked me where to buy the book. Over the next five years, I tested my stories on our grandchildren and began the quest of writing fun, extraordinary stories with a message. I call this series MiMi’s Everyday Adventures.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
I enjoy adventure stories that inspire me to reach for more in myself. The Left Behind Series, written by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins have had a profound impact on me. I eagerly read each book as it became available. As a church musician, I find myself intrigued with the writings and stories of women leaders of faith like Carol Cymbala and Keri Jobe. I also read books by men of faith like David Jeremiah. I believe the children’s adventures stories I write actually combine these two elements: adventure and faith, in a creative and teachable way.
Books I Have Written:
MiMi’s Everyday Adventures is a series of books about anything but ordinary days for children four to eight. MiMi stories are sprinkled with teachable “MiMi Moments” that spark conversations between the child and reader. These stories are written to motivate children to work together and rely on each other. MiMi stories incorporate a scripture and theme that drives each story. Coloring pages from the books are available at my website.
Let’s Go in the Snow, written for TRU1 Publishing, is the first book in the series where we meet the cousins Andrew, Sophie, Isabella, Kate, Will, and Max. When a fresh snow blankets their city, the cousins begin an adventure that gives a whole new definition to the term snow day! Join them as they race against time and unexpected obstacles to discover a surprise no one would have ever expected!
Away in the Snow for Christmas is the second book in the series, written for Elk Lake Publishing. The cousins begin a Christmas adventure that could take a disastrous turn. However, MiMi steps in to surprise the children with an extraordinary Christmas adventure no one will ever forget!
Marooned on Monkey Island is the next adventure in this series for Elk Lake Publishing. The entire family takes a trip to a tropical destination. Quite suddenly, the cousins’ vacation takes a dangerous twist. MiMi and Paga step in to save the day and turn this near disaster into an amazing heroic adventure!
What I'm Working On Now:
Currently, I am working on the fourth book in the MiMi’s Everyday Adventures Series. It will also take place in a tropical setting. Once again, the cousins will need to work together to figure out the dilemma in which they find themselves. This book will also incorporate a Scripture and theme that drives the story and more “MiMi Moments”. I am hoping to have the book ready for print around the beginning of 2017.
