Why I Started Writing:
I started writing as a young child because I loved to express creativity through words. After I wrote a poem called “The Door to Eternity” at age ten, one of my teachers submitted my poetry to a nationwide contest run by "The Mini Page," a syndicated publication for children. My poems won, and I was so encouraged that I started writing poems and stories on a regular basis. In high school, I decided to become a journalist, and by college I was a working newspaper reporter. A few years later, I became an editor on staff with The Salvation Army’s US national publications. That experience showed me how God can use the power of words to bless people significantly. Ever since then, I have focused on writing about faith—to inspire readers. I’m grateful God is using my writing to help people see how their stories connect with God’s story. I’m passionate about using words to help people move closer to God and thrive.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
Numerous authors have influenced me positively through their writing on many topics. Two of my favorite Christian book authors are Max Lucado and Beth Moore. I appreciate their fresh insights and welcoming writing styles.
Books I Have Written:
I have contributed stories to successful compilations published by Guideposts and Chicken Soup for the Soul. I’ve also authored a Christian nonfiction book (A Creative Life: God’s Design for You), a Christian novel for young adults (Dream Factory), co-authored a history book (Fairfax Station: All Aboard) and researched a well-being book (Out of the Shadows: Revealing the Path to Recovery).
What I'm Working On Now:
I’m working on a “Waking Up to Wonder” blog for my website in addition to my work as Communications Director for the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being at George Mason University.
