Why I Started Writing:

I began keeping a journal as a teenager because I found it was a helpful tool to organize my thoughts and keep track of the events of my life. While still in high school, I explored the possibility of becoming a journalist by writing for the school newspaper. But I soon discovered my personality didn’t fit the demands of the job, and so my journalism career ended when I graduated.

After that, writing took a back seat to my pursuit of becoming a missionary. Throughout the years, it mostly limited itself to prayer letters and journals.

The year 2018 was a turning point. With God’s leading, I started a blog about the Christian life, which would be an extension of my ministry. And I embarked on the journey to write my first middle-grade novel, How to Kill a Giant.

The only thing that kept me from dismissing this crazy idea of writing a blog and a book was the unsolicited positive feedback I’d received over the years, starting in high school and continuing with my prayer letters. If so many people could compliment my writing, then maybe I wasn’t like one of those American Idol contestants convinced they were the next Whitney Houston when the reality was they could barely carry a tune. So I set aside my doubts and followed my vision.

The purpose of my writing is to give the reader hope. My passion is to show that the Bible is relevant today and has the answers to the deepest questions of the human heart.

Authors Who Have Influenced Me:

My first love, book-wise, was The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis. I can’t count the number of times I’ve read that series, even as an adult. The second book that impacted me was The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, followed by The Lord of the Rings. Both those authors made me fall in love with books.

I spent my youth reading such classics as Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, and Roots by Alex Hailey.

Since then, I’ve read a wide variety of genres and authors. Some of the most influential have been Frank Peretti’s This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness, the Mitford series by Jan Karon, the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers, and Quo Vadis by Henryk Sienkiewicz.
