Roxanne Hicks
Why I Started Writing:
Writing from childhood, I lost my first recorded story when my mother washed the crayon marks off the wall. I received my first rejection slip at the age of seven from Reader’s Digest. In junior high, my teacher asked me to write a story as punishment for talking in class. (He had no idea I lived to write.)
That experience led me to write four novels before I completed high school. I did stop talking in class but I never quit writing. My first published work was an outdoor story in 1987. I’ve written numerous short stories and eleven novels.
My novels include five historical fiction, five romantic suspense, and one children’s chapter book. My romantic suspense novel Rescuing the Warrior was released last November, and is the first in my Woodridge series.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
The authors who have influenced me are almost too numerous to name. Victoria Holt and Nora Roberts were the first. Since then, I’ve collected a library almost as large as our public library and I glean from each and every author.
Books I Have Written:
Excluding my novels I wrote in high school, (they’re tucked in a box I haven’t opened in decades), I’ve written a historical fiction trilogy, Be Thou My Vision series: For a Cup of Cold Water, My Treasure, and Precious Stones, all set in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana following the Civil War.
Cottonwood Creek and Lily of the Wilderness are also historical fiction set in Montana and Idaho. Gallagher’s Forest is a children’s fantasy chapter book. The next five are romantic suspense which follow Rescuing the Warrior and are set in Idaho.
What I'm Working On Now:
My current work is the fifth book in my Woodridge Series, With Malicious Intent.
