Annie Yorty
Why I Started Writing:
I wrote and illustrated my first book in third grade to chronicle the lives of my numerous pets. In high school I wrote for the yearbook and edited the newspaper. Then my writing simmered on the back burner for many years while I worked and raised children, though I wrote business manuals and created homeschool curriculum and devotions. When my children graduated from homeschool, God prodded me through my husband to finally pursue my lifelong plan to write for publishing. Now I write to encourage those living through difficult circumstances to perceive God’s person, presence, provision, and purpose.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
My desire to write grew out of a love for books at a very young age. The exciting adventures of animals in Jim Kjelgaard’s books sparked my young imagination. At age eleven, Isaac Asimov’s master storytelling in Foundation Trilogy wowed me. Classic authors such as Dickens, Tolstoy, and Hugo awakened my spirit to truth. Much later in life I discovered the world of Christian books. Christian authors who have influenced me to write for God’s glory are Francine Rivers, Frank Peretti, C.S. Lewis, and Warren Wiersbe.
Books I Have Written:
I have contributed to three book compilations:
Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Magic of Dogs: 101 Tales of Family, Friendship & Fun
Everyday Joy!
Room at the Table
God’s Heart Revealed Through Down Syndrome: From Ignorance to Bliss
What I'm Working On Now:
As our culture increasingly commercializes Christmas and its symbols, we can easily allow the emphasis to shift to lights, bells, wreaths, stars, and other trimmings of the season. We may miss the wonder, joy, warmth, and love of the true meaning of Christmas.
In Symbols of Christmas, I find Jesus in twenty-five symbols of Christmas by tracing their meaning and history. I connect each symbol to a spiritual truth readers can apply to their hearts and minds to refocus on Christ at Christmas.
I also contribute articles and devotions every month at Crosswalk.
