Dell Hyssong
Dell R. Hyssong, Jr. sings baritone; his wife, Susan, alto; and son, Richard, tenor for the award-winning gospel music group, The Hyssongs. Full-time musicians, they bring their Christ-centered music to the public performing over 250 concerts annually. They have had the honor of singing for governors and congressmen, at Dollywood and Silver Dollar City, on cruises, and in auditoriums and churches. They were voted “Favorite New Trio” by the subscribers of Singing News Magazine in 2014, and several of their songs have charted on Southern Gospel’s Top 20. Dell airs a weekly television show, Joy for the Journey, and writes a monthly column by the same name in Christian Voice Magazine.
An ordained minister, Dell has a Master’s Degree in Ministry and served as a senior pastor for more than twenty-five years. He is a popular speaker at churches, conferences, and on college campuses sharing his heart for Jesus Christ and Christian music. The Hyssongs tour nationally and internationally. As a native of the state of Maine, Dell loves lobster and spending time on the rugged, rocky coastline when they are home.
Dell’s greatest joy this side of heaven is his family. Dell and Susan have been happily married since 1976. In 2005, Richard married Kelly—Makayla was born in 2008 and Richard IV in 2012. Joy for the Journey follows on the heels of Makayla’s Heart: Moment by Moment, a book Dell wrote about his granddaughter—her miracle and their story.
