Why I Started Writing:
As a child, I imagined that one day I would write a children’s series much like the Little House series. Since my dad was a church planter, we made major moves every few years, and I imagined modern day stories similar to Laura Ingalls Wilder. Although these books never developed, when a miniature dachshund became a part of our family several years ago, life with him was a children’s book and the pages were being written in my head so fast, I knew I had to get them on paper.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
I am a classics kind of gal. Of course, Laura Ingalls Wilder was a major influence, but Jane Austen and her sense of writing about life as it truly is while poking just enough fun have also influenced me greatly. As a college English instructor, I have read everything from Homer to Plath, and I find I like a great variety of writing. I don’t like to write dark writing, but I do like to read that genre, not because I like gruesome literature, but because it often offers insight into the human psyche.
Books I Have Written:
I have written the first three books of the Benny Book Series, Benny Finds a Home, Benny Learns a Lesson, and Benny Meets Grandma. The first of these is in the publication process. These are based on the antics of our lovable, long-haired miniature dachshund, Bentley.
What I'm Working On Now:
I am currently working on the rest of the books in the series, Benny Meets the Junction Boy, Benny’s Just Too Much, and Benny Celebrates Christmas. Bentley’s larger than life personality is a constant inspiration, so more Benny books may be coming soon!
