Deb Haggerty
Why I Started Writing:
I'm that anomaly--a writer who didn't want to write. I'd always written business papers when I was in corporate America, but once I became a professional speaker, I wanted to speak, not write. However, I was told I needed to "have a book." I didn't want to write a book, so I wrote vignettes for other people's books and stories for compilation books like Chicken Soup for the Soul and Heartwarmers of Love. I figured that way I had way more sales people getting my name out than if I had one book.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
I'm a fiction fanatic, but write mostly nonfiction. Authors I've loved are Robert Heinlein, Piers Anthony, Anne McCaffrey, DiAnn Mills, Dani Pettrey, Lynette Eason, and many others too numerous to mention.
Books I Have Written:
I co-authored Experiencing God's Love in a Broken World—A Spiritual Journey with my husband, Roy. Elk Lake has just released my memoir, These Are the Days of My Life.
What I'm Working On Now:
As the publisher and editor in chief of Elk Lake Publishing, Inc., I am concentrating on working with the authors God has brought to me to get their books out in the most professional fashion possible. I don't see another book on my horizon, but I don't know what God has in mind.
