Why I Started Writing:
People write for multiple reasons. During writer conferences, the most successful authors encourage new writers to answer this question—“What is your why?” This personal assessment question—like a holiday buffet—provides a spread of rationales for every appetite. Some people write as a form of therapy or to leave a legacy. Others write to express creativity.
My why is easy to answer. I am wired to encourage and help others, and I love the power of story. Broken people need hope and comfort, and if any story from my life can showcase the love of Jesus—directly or subtly—I’ll share.
When I consider the specific topic posed, I confess I am not able to give an adequate answer. I don’t know why I started, but I do ponder this—Will I ever stop?
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
My love of reading began early with the adventures of The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and The Bobbsey Twins. Writers whose works of faith and encouragement inspired me include Evelyn Christensen, Chuck Swindoll, Dr. David Jeremiah, Robert Morgan, C. S. Lewis, Philip Yancey, Lee Strobel, Max Lucado, Elisabeth Elliot, and Corrie ten Boom. In addition, Harold G. Koenig, Elizabeth Johnson Taylor, and multiple spiritual care researchers also have influenced me.
Books I Have Written:
I Never Walk the Halls Alone: A Nurse’s Private Collection of God’s Critical Care
A Life Just Like Mine: How God and Nursing Turned Past Pain into Present Peace
—Golden Scroll Award, 2024 Memoir of the Year
Both books reflect my journey as a nurse and storyteller, sharing how faith and caregiving intersect in the hospital halls and in everyday life.
What I'm Working On Now:
I am currently completing a new manuscript of true personal experience stories for Christian nurses. Nurses need to be reminded that God’s peace is available. The Lord is with them.
True stories of God working in the lives of patients and families will relieve anxiety, spark familiarity, and turn focus from uncontrollable circumstances to the only One who is in control. Self-reflection questions and Scriptures will help encourage by reminding them how much the heavenly Father loves the healers in this world.
