Why I Started Writing:

My writing journey began in seventh grade, sparked by an English teacher who required weekly compositions and poetry memorization. At the time, I resisted the discipline, unaware that she was nurturing a gift within me, a gift that would later become central to my calling.

During my early years as an educator, I taught theater and sponsored the drama club. I wrote numerous plays, complete with costuming, choreography, and stage direction. These creative endeavors became a source of peace and restoration. Writing transported me to imagined worlds, allowing me to explore emotions and ideas beyond the confines of daily life. I penned poems, short stories, and devotions, each one a reflection of my inner being.

Upon retiring from teaching, I looked forward to immersing myself in reading and writing. Yet I soon encountered a spiritual dilemma: many of the books I was reading lacked the values I hold dear. Their explicit content and coarse language left me unsettled. I brought these concerns to God in prayer, seeking clarity and conviction. Through reflection and spiritual discernment, I made the decision to step away from literature that conflicted with my faith.

That turning point led to a deeper realization: the world needs more Christian novels—stories that weave love and romance with authentic life struggles, grounded in grace and truth. I wanted to create characters who mirror the readers themselves: flawed, searching, and ultimately redeemed.

Writing became not just a passion, but a ministry. I believe God entrusted me with this creative gift, and I feel called to use it in service to Him. My debut novel is set on Dauphin Island, Alabama, a place of quiet beauty and inspiration. Though I’ve fictionalized many of the names and locations, the island served as fertile ground for imagining “what if” scenarios and crafting characters who wrestle with real-life challenges.

Through storytelling, I hope to offer readers not just entertainment, but encouragement—a reminder that grace is never out of reach, and that faith can illuminate even the darkest corners of our journey.

Authors Who Have Influenced Me:

My writing has been shaped by a blend of classic and contemporary voices, each one offering a unique lens through which I’ve come to understand storytelling, character, and the power of emotional truth.

As a fellow Kentuckian, Jesse Stuart’s deep reverence for rural life and the dignity of everyday people resonates with me. His ability to capture the spirit of Appalachia, its hardships, humor, and heart, taught me that stories rooted in place can carry universal meaning. Like Stuart, I strive to honor the landscapes and communities that have shaped my own life.

Alcott’s Little Women was one of the first novels that showed me how faith, family, and personal growth could be interwoven with romance and resilience. Her characters are flawed yet aspiring. Themes of sisterhood, sacrifice, and moral courage inspire the emotional depth I seek in my own work.

I discovered Karen Kingsbury’s novels after making the decision to step away from literature that conflicted with my faith. Her stories are filled with grace, redemption, and spiritual depth. As I searched for books that aligned with my values, Kingsbury’s work stood out as a testament to the power of Christian fiction. Her characters wrestle with real-life struggles yet always point toward hope and healing. Though I’ve only recently begun reading her books, they’ve affirmed my calling to write stories that uplift, encourage, and reflect the redemptive love of God

Another author I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading is Nora Roberts. Her mastery of character development and storytelling is evident in every novel. I especially admire her ability to craft strong, complex women, characters who are both vulnerable and resilient. Their emotional depth and authenticity have influenced the way I shape my own protagonists, mirroring the real-life journeys of readers who seek both strength and grace in the face of adversity.

These authors, and many others, have helped me discover and shape my voice. A story that weaves together emotional honesty, spiritual depth, and authentic realism. I strive to portray human flaws with compassion and to illuminate love as both a deep longing of the heart and a sacred gift from our Heavenly Father.

Books I Have Written:

Though I’ve written poetry, plays, and numerous drama productions throughout my career as a teacher, Salt & Grace is my first official novel. It marks the beginning of my journey as a published author. Scheduled for release in 2026, this debut work is a heartfelt love story set on Dauphin Island, Alabama, a place whose quiet beauty and spiritual resonance inspired the setting and tone of the book.

What I'm Working On Now:

Currently, my focus is on preparing Salt & Grace for its upcoming release in 2026. I’m refining promotional materials, planning community events, and designing creative giveaways that reflect the novel’s themes of faith, redemption, and enduring love. Alongside these efforts, I’ve begun writing Book Two, which continues the journey of the same characters introduced in Salt & Grace. While it can be enjoyed as a standalone story, it fits beautifully as a sequel—offering deeper insight into their lives, relationships, and spiritual growth. My hope is that readers will find both books to be uplifting companions on their own journeys of grace.
