Why I Started Writing:
I started writing to expand my audience. For years I’ve studied to teach women and children truth from God’s word. During these years, I was busy raising three children, leading a children’s ministry, and working full time so my publishing process was delayed. The writing call was without repentance so I’ve left the work force to walk in obedience. I’m now resolved to writing weekly devotions, radio spots, and publishing in my local paper. Through published works people I may never meet can be inspired.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
Reading series by Laura Ingles Wilder, Carolyn Keene, Marcia Martin, and L.M. Montgomery evoke fond childhood memories. These ladies influenced me to create works that bring about the same memories for children.
As an adult I’ve been influenced by many authors of American Literature such as: Harper Lee, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and William Faulkner. These author’s works provoke thought and reflection for readers today giving us a peek of past cultures. This interests me and compels me to write works that cause readers to ponder and draw beneficial social conclusions.
Francine Rivers, Terri Blackstock, and Janette Oak are influential in my aspiration toward publishing because each worked diligently to write compelling Christian novels. They are all successful authors. Kay Arthur has motivated me most with her dedication to writing books that inspire women to read God’s truth for spiritual application. I am diligent in this same pursuit.
Children’s book authors Dr. Seuss, Sandra Boynton, Eric Carle, and Anna Dewdney are influencers in my life because they each carved a niche of their own creating unique and enjoyable characters for children. Their works promote social growth in a fun and unassuming way and I hope to do the same.
Books I Have Written:
My first book to be published is Whose Manger is This?. With animals expressing unfavorable child-like traits, this Christmas picture book teaches children the valuable spiritual lesson of giving to Jesus as an act of worship. I have published articles in Refresh Online Magazine and I publish weekly in the Fentress Times Newspaper. My works have been published in two compilations: And Then There Was Light and Whispers of Grace both compiled by Living Parables of Central Florida.
What I'm Working On Now:
I’m currently polishing multiple picture book manuscripts with interesting characters that teach valuable spiritual or social lessons for children age four to eight. Work also continues on a series of devotional books that double as coffee table books, a stand-alone devotional, and a children’s devotional.
