Why I Started Writing:
From my earliest memories, I was intrigued by stories. I could spend hours with paper dolls making up stories, and somewhere around eleven-years-old, I decided that I was going to write a book. One of my brothers insisted that I would never be published, and I took it as a challenge.
I began putting my stories into notebooks, and when I was thirteen, my mom bought me the One Year Adventure Novel curriculum. I went through the entire program twice over the next few years, and learned how to structure my stories, and my dreams began to come together.
When I was sixteen, I hit a snag. Writing had become a passion that was mine. I began to find identity and fulfilment in my writing, instead of from God. Through a course of serious promptings from God, I realized that as long as I was writing for me, it was pointless. If I was going to write, it had to be to share Christ, and impact readers for Him. It completely changed my writing when I began to dream of what God could do if I wrote for Him, and not for me. It’s been a crazy adventure ever since! Following God’s leading in my writing has brought me to places I never dreamed of going, and taught me the true joy of writing for God’s glory.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
When I was at a very impressionable age, and struggling to find my footing in the writing world, I had a conversation with author Lois Walfrid Johnson. I’d read her books, and always admired her ability to structure a story with so much historical accuracy, but when she took the time to chat with me, and encourage me with writing tips, and the power of prayer in my writing, it moved my writing to another level. She is definitely one of the most influential authors in my life from a writing standpoint.
As far as content goes, I’ve been inspired by a lot of authors, but especially those like James H. Hunter, E.D.E.N Southworth, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who wrote intricate plots that always kept their readers guessing. Authors like Ed Dunlop, Sigmund Brouwer, Sharon Hambrick, and Daniel Schwabauer helped inspire me to always have a message worth reading.
Books I Have Written:
The Adventures of Amy series started my writing with tween fiction mysteries, and was followed by the Ty Carson trilogy, The PK Detective series, and since my family runs a corn maze, I added the Mystery at the Corn Maze.
Then, I did some YA novels with my only historical fiction, Freedom’s Captive, my intense mission field drama, Mission of a Lifetime, and my modern-day prince thriller, The Sane Madman.
I also branched into cozy Christmas mystery novels and wrote The Fudged Up Murder, Expired by Eggnog, and Mayhem at the Mistletoe Morgue.
What I'm Working On Now:
In addition to Prisoner 1-8-6, the YA suspense novel that I’m thrilled to be partnering with Elk Lake Publishing, I’m also working on the next boy’s home mystery in the Ty Carson series, and my next cozy Christmas mystery, Fatal Fraud and Fruitcake.
