Why I Started Writing:
For as long as I can remember, I have loved stories. One of my earliest memories is of telling my mother at the age of five that I was going to write a book about our dogs having adventures. As I grew up, journaling and writing were how I dealt with my daily life. In the 8th grade, I was published in a young poet’s anthology. When I was discharged from the Navy, I had extreme anxiety disorder, and the only way I could calm down was to daydream stories. Now, I write because it is when I feel the most joy and fulfillment. Even at work as a mental health counselor, I cannot make it through the day without daydreaming about possible story ideas.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
Because I enjoyed reading so much growing up and into adulthood, many authors influenced me. Eva Marie Everson, Tolkien, Peretti, Dekker, L’Engle, and even Debbie Macomber have sparked a desire to write in me. Even as a judge for the Selah awards, I would gain inspiration from the books I’d judge.
Books I Have Written:
Thus far, I have written one book other than Fire. Believe was published by Tate Publishing and is a prequel to Fire.
What I'm Working On Now:
Currently, I am working on outlines for the two or potentially three books to follow Fire. I have also been planning a fantasy fiction involving floating islands, dragons, and hidden fairies in our world.
Writing has always been an integral part of my life. From childhood aspirations to professional endeavors, it has provided me with an outlet for creativity and emotional expression. The stories I create are not just a pastime; they are a fundamental aspect of who I am and how I interact with the world. The joy and fulfillment I find in writing continue to drive my passion and inspire me to explore new narratives and characters.
My journey as a writer is a testament to the power of storytelling and its ability to shape our lives. It has helped me navigate through personal challenges and professional responsibilities, allowing me to share my imagination and experiences with others. As I continue to develop my craft and expand my repertoire, I am excited to see where my love for stories will take me next.
