Susan Lawrence
Why I Started Writing:
I have been a writer since I could hold a pencil. I wrote poetry in 1st grade. I had several published poems in high school, and one of my goals was to someday write. I received a degree in education and began a career as an elementary special needs teacher. When I stopped teaching to raise three children, I took a class at the local community college, Writing for Fun and Profit. In the next few years, I published many short stories and articles for a variety of publications. I returned to teaching but only half time. I homeschooled my daughter and used moments while she was doing class work to start my first books—family devotionals. I have always considered my writing as a calling, and do a lot of praying over what He wants me to share.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
Most of them that I have read—and that is a lot!—have influenced me in some way. Sometimes I say, “I wish I could write like that,” sometimes, “I certainly don’t want to write like that!” I have many author friends who have supported, encouraged, and mentored me.
