Why I Started Writing:
I have loved books and reading since I was in elementary school. I think I have always had the desire to create stories that would touch others in the same way books touched me. I didn’t start writing for publication until I was in my thirties. I started out writing filler for magazines, graduated to articles, and then into books. I feel it is more than a vocation, it is a calling. I write to encourage, influence, and inspire others.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me:
I read all the time when I was a girl so I’ve read many books, but a few of those stand out to me including the Nancy Drew books, the Hardy Boys books, Rebecca and Jamaica Inn by Daphne DuMaurier, and the Little Britches series by Ralph Moody. Now my reading choices and writing are influenced by Charles Martin, Kate Morton, Richard Paul Evans, Pam Jenoff, and Julia Cameron. I also greatly enjoy and admire stories by Robert Whitlow, Lisa Wingate, and Patti Callahan.
Books I Have Written:
In 1999, I submitted a manuscript to Barbour Publishing for one of their gift book lines entitled, 101 Keys for Life. They published it in 2000, and it was followed by five more over the next few years. In 2015, I published my first novel, Postmark From the Past. Since then I’ve published four more novels, Wheels of Justice; Moved, Left No Address; Waiting for Joy; and A Christmas Legacy. My newest novel is Forgive the Trespassers scheduled for release in September 2021. I also write nonfiction and those titles include Psalms for the Common Man, a devotional based on every Psalm in the Bible, Gratitude: The Art of Being Thankful, (a gift book), The 5-Minute Prayer Plan for Women, and 10 Things to Remember When Times Are Bad. I’ve been blessed to cowrite books with two other writers. Simply Christmas: Memories, Traditions, and Stories of the Season and Writing 101: A Handbook of Tips and Encouragement for Writers were coauthored with Jo Huddleston. Mornings With God: My Daily Prayer Journal was coauthored with Emily Biggers.
What I'm Working On Now:
At present, I am writing the third book in the Redwood Series. The first two books are Postmark From the Past and Wheels of Justice. These are stories of life in a small Texas town named Redwood. I try to write a Christmas story/book every year when possible to bring out during the holiday season, (although I have missed a few years), so I’m also writing a Christmas novella.
